THOMAS JORION // VESTIGES OF EMPIRE- NOVEMBER 2016
Vestiges d'empire presents a journey through time to discover the ruins of French colonial architecture in numerous destinations around the world. Along with architecture, history and politics are the other two pillars of Thomas Jorion's work. His 180 unpublished photographs show a recognizable aestheticism despite the geographical distance. With its dehumanizing architecture, the human figure is almost totally absent, even though it was the first to take over these places. The reported images sometimes suggest, despite the variety and geographical remoteness of the subjects, an architectural similarity, where no nostalgia inhabits this series.
