From the wild archipelagos of Alaska to the snowy forests of Lapland, photographer Brice Portolano went to meet people who have decided to change their lives to get closer to nature. Without freeing themselves from modernity or marginalising themselves, these individuals question values and a way of life that no longer correspond to them.

They adopt a simpler life, sometimes without running water or electricity, often far from the cities and without a telephone network, in stark contrast to their previous life.

This new life, guided by a compelling desire to follow a different path, is transformed, despite the obstacles, into a true quest for meaning and freedom.
