DÉDICACE AVEC LAURE FISSORE – « À LA RECHERCHE DE SUZANNE HUMBERT » – JEUDI 25 AVRIL À PARTIR DE 18h

It all begins in a flea market on a rainy day, as Michel Lagarde’s discerning eye catches a glimpse under a tarpaulin of a set of forgotten works. These are the paintings of Suzanne Humbert (1913-1952), recognizable by their vibrant simplicity and the sense of familiarity they evoke.

With an intimate style and bold colors, Suzanne Humbert was one of those pioneers who fully participated in the art scene of the early 20th century. After studying law to satisfy her father, she enrolled at the Académie Julian, the Nabis school and one of the first to accept women, and then at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris, which had just opened a studio reserved for women. There, Suzanne Humbert rubbed shoulders with Georges d’Espagnat, Abbé Buffet, and also Hélène Poirié (1914-2009), who was to become her great friend.

Teacher at ESAP in Monaco and winner of the Libération prize for travel notebooks, Laure Fissore was in turn moved by Suzanne Humbert’s style. She decided to illustrate the book dedicated to Suzanne Humbert, and thus À la recherche de Suzanne Humbert was born, bearing witness to both a rediscovery and the blossoming of a talent.
