DES OISEAUX, CHRISTOPHE MAOUT - Christophe Maout

In Des oiseaux, photographer Christophe Maout invites us to rediscover city birds from the windows of his Paris apartment as the country is confined in 2020.

He sets up a very special device combining a pair of binoculars and a camera that takes us back to the origins of the medium: the image circle of the lens projected onto the sensitive surface. Varying the time of day, the orientation of the sun and the species of bird, Christophe Maout revives the ornithological tradition of observation, while adding an artistic gesture in framing and color. He transports us into a world of lightness, alternating viewpoints between skies and rooftops, with clouds and the horizon as his only visual reference points.

This twelfth title in the “Des oiseaux” collection is an ode to the freedom of birds that makes us look up to the sky.
