Founded in 2017 by Lee SHULMAN, The Anonymous Project is one of the largest private collections of amateur colour photographs from the 20th century. Often funny, surprising and touching, these intimate archives tell the story of our lives and form an intense representation of our times. This art project seeks to give meaning to these forgotten memories and offers new ways of interpreting and telling stories that question our place in the contemporary world.

The Anonymous Project is now releasing its latest project, Horizons, an original leporello where photographs of strangers form an infinite line: a nice way to show that all our horizons can cross one day.

"(...) I often imagine myself sitting in a train, my face glued to the window, contemplating the landscape that passes like a long ribbon. I am hypnotised by the horizon, this undulating line that structures the elements of a constantly changing scenery. (...) The horizons in this selection could symbolise the backdrop against which our lives unfold. This thread stretched between what we were and what we will be. A subtle and friendly way of reminding us that our roads all lead in the same direction on the trajectory of our lives. "

The Anonymous project

A real revelation at the Rencontres de la photo d'Arles 2019, The Anonymous Project was born from the desire of a duo of photography enthusiasts to give a second life to kodachrome slides received or found in England and across the Atlantic.

The aim? To collect as many slides as possible and make them into a magisterial, eclectic database accessible to as many people as possible.

"The House", published by Textuel, is the collection resulting from this fabulous project.

Amusing and moving, the archives that make up this book celebrate the unforgettable memories within the house and draw the contours of an ordinary but precious memory.
