At the beginning of Martin Jarrie was a landscape, that of the valley of the Sèvre in which flows this important tributary of the Loire, the Sèvre Nantaise. From the bottom of his parents' garden, he could see the Saint Martin farm, but he could also make out La Jarrie on the other bank, where he lived his first years. His attachment to this childhood land was so strong that Martin Jarrie chose the names of these places as his pseudonym.

"In my childhood home, there was my father's vegetable garden, with my mother's flower bed at the top of the enclosure, gathered around the well, and, under the nearby veranda, the succulents and other potted flowers, the objects of all her care."

It is while remembering this maternal garden that the desire to paint these portraits of flowers came to him.

Martin Jarrie

A well-known painter and illustrator, Martin Jarrie works for the press and publishing industry, in France and abroad. In 1997 he won the Grand Prize at the International Illustration Biennial in Bratislava and two special mentions at the Bologna Children's Book Fair in 2010 for Hyacinthe et Rose (ed.Thierry Magnier) and in 2012 for Rêveur de cartes (ed.Gallimard Giboulées). He has been exhibited many times in France, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Switzerland and the Netherlands. His paintings can be seen at the Museum of Illustration in Moulins and the Museum of Hunting and Nature in Paris.
His exhibition at the beginning of 2020 at the Belvedere Museum in the Netherlands was a great success.

L'Imagier du vivant, his latest book, was published by Seuil Jeunesse. His next book "Les deux géants" will be published in October 2021 by HongFei.

He is represented in Paris by Arsenic Galerie, rue Guénégaud and by the Adorable Art & Design Gallery in The Hague.
