LE FAUSSAIRE

This book was born of an encounter. Patrick Marsaud was contacted in mid-November by publisher Michel Lagarde, who suggested he write the text for a collection of illustrations by Jean Lébédeff, which he had acquired at auction 4 years ago. Jean Lébédeff is considered one of the most important wood engravers of the last century. These drawings show views from a book “Le Vieux Paris“, which Lébédeff was preparing in the late 1930s, and which never saw the light of day. All the characters in the book existed. Some actually met. The rest were born in the author’s imagination. Paris is, of course, at the heart of the story. A Paris of 1936, with old cafés, old buses, craftsmen, vanished buildings, and Les Halles of course. “Le Faussaire” includes 35 color illustrations of Paris, a few sketches from a preparatory notebook, and several other drawings.
