Brecht Evens was twenty-two when he left the Saint-Luc school in Ghent (Belgium) with Les Noceurs, his graduation project, under his arm. His inimitable style, characterized by a remarkable mastery of color and transparency, the explosion of perspective and a taste for detail, immediately aroused enthusiasm.
Published in 2010, Les Noceurs won the Prix de l’Audace at the Angoulême International Comics Festival. With the publication of Les Amateurs (2011) and Panthère (2014), Brecht Evens’ reputation has continued to grow, both in France, where he now lives, and abroad, and now extends far beyond the borders of the comics world. In 2018, he published Les Rigoles (Actes Sud BD), an impressive 300-page graphic novel about the wanderings of three night owls in a chimerical, sublime city. For this graphic novel, Brecht Evens received the Fauve – Prix Spécial du Jury at the 2019 Angoulême International Comics Festival. Between books, Brecht Evens works for the press and fashion, and is represented by Galerie Martel in Paris. His graphic novels are published by Actes Sud BD.
