France, Paris, Molitor pool, summer 1985
"The boys were asked to smear the amber sun on the backs of the ladies. We obediently complied, captivated by the scent of vanilla monoi "pure Tahiti". It was the time of the pleasure pools. We flirted, we chirped, we dreamed. Time was stretching."

"In 1985, I did two series of black and white photos of the Molitor pool, located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, a mythical Art Deco pool with the look of an ocean liner, where the first bikini appeared in 1945 and was the kingdom of toplessness in the 1980s.

The Molitor pool closed in 1989, there is no equivalent photographic testimony. My images speak of a quasi-mythical place where the joyful and unruly youth of Paris used to meet. I walked my camera along the water, in total freedom, without any embarrassment or authorization. Nobody cared. The young women rolled their one-piece swimsuits over their hips, or took off their bikini tops, looking out for the tan lines. They were swimming topless, shameless naiads. Their skin was beaded with drops, and they "grilled themselves" after the bath. The boys were asked to spread the solar amber on the backs of these ladies. We obediently complied, captivated by the scent of vanilla monoi "pure Tahiti". It was the time of the pleasure pools. We flirted, we chirped, we dreamed."
