Perpendicular Dreams, Volume II is the second volume in a series of art books featuring collages by Julien Pacaud, illustrated with texts by Jean-Christophe Sanchez.
Julien Pacaud has been an illustrator and digital collage artist since 2002. Working on commission for a wide range of clients in the press, music and advertising sectors, he also pursues a more personal creative approach, which is presented in this book. He has exhibited his work in France and around the world (Copenhagen, Bogotà, Tapei, London, etc.). Influenced by the Surrealists and cinema, he composes digital collages from a bank of old photos that he perpetually collects, here, there and everywhere. Each of his creations is an invitation to a journey into parallel universes that spread through thick clouds of ambiguity, where galaxies, mountains and strange protagonists collide to reorganize chaos.
Jean-Christophe Sanchez has been painting, writing, editing and directing films for twenty-five years. In 2014, two feature films and some thirty shorts later, he began work on a 164-episode series of poetic documentaries entitled “La Mer des Sargasses”. Along with Julien, he is one of the pillars of the industrial music group Drahomira Song Orchestra (some fifteen albums released to date and a few rare live appearances).
They met in Paris, during their studies at the Ecole Louis Lumière, and began working together on film projects. Their collaboration became evident three years later, in 1996, when they founded the Institut Drahomira – a multi-disciplinary movement of artists (music, cinema, collage, painting, literature, etc.) – a structure conducive to giving substance to a vision, their project: poetic expressionism.
