As part of his retrospective exhibition at the Maison de la Photographie, artist JR, has chosen to celebrate this event by dedicating in an exceptional way 100 copies for ARTAZART.

“Momentum, la mécanique de l’épreuve” is JR’s first major exhibition at a French institution (Maison Européenne de la Photographie / from November 7, 2018 to February 10, 2019) . It brings together the artist’s earliest photographs, monumental-format collages from his biggest projects, and several previously unseen installations. This focus on his work is a veritable plunge into his universe, from the graffiti of his early days, to the masterful works we know him for today.

The exhibition catalog will undoubtedly be a key art book at the end of the year. Its editor, Clémentine de La Ferronnière, tells us that “this book, like the accompanying exhibition, promises a (re)-discovery of JR’s work, which has been shown all over the world over the last twenty years. This is the first retrospective on this scale, and the book had to be up to the task. Our common thread is the nuts and bolts of his work. It’s a completely new book in its form, produced in close collaboration with JR and his teams.”

It is produced using a variety of printing, binding and paper transparency techniques. Four members of Oulipo, a group of writers and mathematicians founded in 1960 by Raymond Queneau and François Le Lionnais, have contributed texts that resonate with JR’s work, adding an extra dimension to the book.
