In December 2020, Aline Zalko accepted an invitation to lead a workshop at an art school in Fort-de-France, Martinique. The artist, familiar with colored pencils, takes with her only a box of watercolors, which will never leave her. Caught up in the intensity of the discovery, painting became a necessity, and this monographic book, “Martinique” (Éditions de la Table ronde), gathers the images.
Aline Zalko transcribes her wanderings and encounters on this island that fascinates her, lingering on the blues to show the night that falls in a few minutes, painting her fascination for Montagne Pelée and the volcanic imaginary that is created around it. It’s not a travel diary, but rather a pictorial account of an experience. In this way, she captures the emotion of an instant. This book is prefaced by Claire Berest.
See you Thursday June 1 from 6pm for the launch of Martinique and a book signing with Aline Zalko!
