Joséphine Michel is a photographic artist based in Brussels.
Her approach explores the relationship between photography and sound, through improvisation, texture and reverberation.
His book The Heat Equation will be released mid-October by UK label Touch. It will be accompanied by an album by Finnish composer and sound artist Mika Vainio.
The images in this book (66 black and white photographs and 96 pages) compose a form of photographic elegy in memory of the composer, who died in April 2017. These photographs sketch correspondences with the intensities of his music, in an oblique adaptation. She chose not to photograph the people he loved, the places he lived, the instruments he used. There was, in his music, a great imagination of matter, which is reflected here like a film between the dead and the living, a poetics of the elements. In The Heat Equation, microcosm and macrocosm, science and lyricism, the molecular and the cosmic merge or coexist.
The artist will be present at the canal on Tuesday October 15 from 6pm for the launch of her book and a signing session!
