From the wild archipelagos of Alaska to the snowy forests of Lapland, photographer Brice Portolano set out to meet those who have decided to change their lives to get closer to nature. Without freeing themselves from modernity or marginalizing themselves, these individuals question values and a way of life that no longer suit them.

They adopt a simpler lifestyle, sometimes without running water or electricity, often far from towns and without a telephone network, in stark contrast to their former lives.

This new life, guided by the compelling desire to follow a different path, is transformed despite the obstacles into a true quest for meaning and freedom.
