A man of the snows if ever there was one, Christophe Jacrot has made his own the inclement weather that has heckled the four corners of our planet.
Born in 1960, the photographer gained a foothold in the world of images by directing several short films, including Lifting and Soutien de Famille, both of which won several international festival awards. From this cinematic heritage, the Frenchman undoubtedly draws some of the constitutive elements of his work: a millimetric aesthetic, marked by a general shot where Man is often no more than a task in an environment open to all projections. Plunged into a diffuse, sometimes artificial light, Christophe Jacrot’s subjects seem to have been placed there on purpose, as if they were prisoners on a shoot that looks like the end of the world. “My research is above all formal, linked to the simple, carnal pleasure of making images. So, like a photo farmer, I ‘plough’ a place that I’ve chosen because it inspires me,” he writes in the introduction to his latest book.
He’ll be there to meet you and sign his latest book, “Neiges”, published by H’Artpon, on Wednesday November 27 from 6pm, on the canal bank. All you have to do is don a hat and a scarf and come and warm up at Artazart!
