What’s the connection between a Chinese tourist in a kimono cast in concrete, drunken salarymen who don’t know how to wear a mask, a 14-meter-high anti-tsunami wall spanning 300 km, silicone sex dolls who look 16, an island ravaged by typhoons, evangelist yakuza?
He is now releasing his first photographic book, Giri Giri, co-published by Editions de Juillet and Hatje Cantz.
“In Japan, we use the expression “giri giri” when two things violently collide. Like my encounter as a photographer with this country. But also when a situation just happens. Like any good photo taken on the spot.”
