S.MEUNIER & P.TOURNEBOEUF // AMERICAN DREAM

All taken outdoors, with the same square size and edged in white or cream, the amateur snapshots in this formidable collection delightfully revisit one of the iconic motifs of the American dream: the car, pure object of desire. Can you imagine America without the road trip, without Pontiac or Cadillac to carve the road?
At the Salon des vieux papiers in April 2010, Sylvie Meunier and Patrick Tourneboeuf discovered a box containing a dozen square, post-war American photographs. On all of them, a car, a house and people posing. A portrait of an era takes shape, the starting point of their collection.

To coincide with the launch of American Dream, published by Textuels, the two image enthusiasts held a book signing at Artazart.

“American Dream is a work of collection and interpretation of a cultural pan of anonymous Americans who use photography to immortalize themselves alone, with two, or with their family in front of their beautiful car parked in front of their house.”
