The AAM AASTHA (shared beliefs) photographic project is a continuation of Charles Fréger’s series on masquerades around the world: Wilder Mann (since 2010), Yokainoshima (2013-2015), Bretonnes (2015), Cimarron (2014-2018). Interested in the Ramayana – the founding epic of Hinduism – the photographer traveled to India to discover an ever-expanding pantheon of some 300 million figures, embodied in ritual and sacred performances in temples, theaters and streets.

Texts by Anuradha Roy, Catherine Clément and Kuhu Kopariha, in French.
