HYPERBOREA : STORIES FROM THE ARCTIC – Arbugaeva Evgenia

Hyperborea presents unforgettable visual accounts of life in the Siberian Arctic experienced by Evgenia Arbugaeva growing up in Tiksi, a town on the shores of the Laptev Sea in the Republic of Yakutia. This photographic book contains a decade of work, with photographs selected from Arbugaeva’s entire series, made up of extensive journeys along the Russian Arctic coast. Her rigorously composed photographs shine with rich, supernatural colors.

In her work, she reveals the fragility and desolation of the land, as well as depicting the quiet, solitary intensity of life in these regions at the ends of the earth. Her photographs convey the impression of a world where everything seems connected: man and nature, heaven and earth.

With an introduction by anthropologist Piers Vitebsky, four texts by Arbugaeva to complement the images and a specially commissioned map to give an idea of the location of Arbugaeva’s work, Hyperborea presents a very special talent in the world of photography.
