Everything you need to know about pregnancy, from conception to baby’s first days. Double-page spreads animated by cut-outs and flaps explain the male and female reproductive systems, fertilization, cell division, MAP, genetic heritage, ultrasound, twins, prematurity, and month after month the reader can follow the evolution of the embryo. Hélène Druvert fleshes out this marvellous internal mechanism right up to childbirth, before bringing the book to a close with the first moments of life: breastfeeding, motor development and the evolution of the baby’s senses.
A documentary as sumptuous as it is fascinating on the most exceptional thing in the world: birth.
