A real revelation at the Rencontres de la photo d’Arles 2019, The anonymous Project was born of the desire of a duo of photography enthusiasts to give a second life to kodachrome slides received or mottled in England and across the Atlantic.
In 2017, Emmanuelle Halkin, a graduate of the Ecole du Louvre and in charge (among other things) of cultural projects for the Fetart association, and Lee Shulman, a film and advertising director for major brands such as Ikea, Subway and Samsung, decided to set up this participatory project by inviting anyone who wished to send in their old snapshots.
The aim? Collect as many slides as possible and turn them into a masterful, eclectic database accessible to as many people as possible.
As a result, hundreds of thousands of photos have been received, enabling them to be carefully selected and digitized. The aim is to enable everyone to immerse themselves in the daily lives of people from all walks of life and all corners of the globe, thanks to photographs taken between the 1930s and the 1990s. A real goldmine for those who want to go back in time at the click of a button.
“The house”, published by Textuel, is the result of this fabulous project. Amusing and moving, these archives celebrate the “things in life” and sketch the contours of an ordinary but precious memory. Each sequence is introduced by a colored layer evoking the transparency of a slide, in a generous format and sophisticated design.
Following the resounding success of their exhibition in Arles, the duo have chosen Artazart to once again showcase their creativity in two incredible showcases that will delight passers-by and visitors alike!
They will be on view from September 19, 2019 until October 16…
