Victoire Orth began the “Corps à corps” series in 2020, a mirror in one hand, a film camera in the other. In her Paris studio, she creates self-portraits that she develops herself. These images are born of a need to explore the body and its fluidity. The photographer probes the singularities, changes and expressive possibilities of gender.
Gradually, she brings both female and male models into her world. A new temporality is created in the series: from the self-portrait, she moves on to the bodies of others, from the refusal of binarity to the mixing of skins. The female profiles also leave their place to muscles, to hair.
Redrawing the boundaries of gender, Victoire Orth approaches the nude in all its intimacy and sensitivity. She thinks of the self, outside of structures.
See you Thursday, October 5 at 6pm for the opening of “Corps à corps, acte II” by Victoire Orth, an exhibition from the Rencontres photographiques du 10e satellite program.
