In the 1990s, Françoise Huguier undertook a crossing of Siberia, from Moscow to the Behring Strait. Thirty years on, the VU’ agency photographer has gone back to her contact sheets and become aware of the already catastrophic pollution of Arctic lands. “1992”, published by Editions Odyssée, is a far cry from “En route pour Behring” (Editions Maeght, 1993), the first book to bring together images from this trip. This time, the photographer concentrates on places, rather than people and the different ethnic groups encountered at the time. In it, Huguier recounts an ecological reality, captured in an in-between period of history and absent from the narratives of the time.
See you Thursday May 4 from 5pm for the launch of “1992” and a book signing with photographer Françoise Huguier!
