“In Revêtir, Aurélie Scouarnec focuses on those for whom wearing the costumes of Brittany has an intimate meaning, particularly in Celtic circles. She has followed the activities of these different groups at championships and festivities, paying particular attention to the way in which women dress each other. This series focuses particularly on the time outside the public performance. The suspended time of preparation, rehearsal and waiting. In this ceremonial setting, where the meticulousness of the gesture is whispered, the images try to get closer to the intimate life of the costume and its wearer, to the links that are activated between the fabrics and the bodies.
The candlelight, golden and respectful of the skins and the finesse of the clothes; the gravity of the faces; the moment of the shot (before the performance): everything contributes to a preparation, in other words to what is going to be offered to the eye. Everything waits, everything rustles, everything vibrates too, a rustling of wings, as if preparing for love. The photo is in the tone of a painting, the snapshot is not, it contains time, linking the past to the present”.
