Belmond, the luxury hotel company renowned for restoring historic properties, now collaborates with renowned photographers to create images that resonate with the destinations it offers, carefully matching each artist to the character of the chosen hotel. Letizia Le Fur photographed Caruso, on the Amalfi coast, in autumn 2022 and spring 2024.
Caruso has almost a thousand years of history and, from Caruso, Le Fur genially captured its architecture carved into the sparkling hills and towering cliffs of this most iconic stretch of Italian coastline. The landforms appear almost flat, like a Renaissance trompe l’oeil fresco or a scene from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, from which you could simply step out and glide across the surface. The gardens look like something straight out of Hayao Miyazaki’s imagination. The intention behind these shots was to reinforce the dreamlike, timeless aspect of the place.
The book is driven by this singular gaze, each of Le Fur’s subjects shimmering with luminescence, a character in its own right in this multi-act play in which the kaleidoscopic theatricality of the sun takes centre stage.
